When will the Board make a final decision on the draft plan?
The consultation period will run from January 28 to April 10, 2026. The Board will listen to the community before making any decisions on the draft plan. We expect final decisions by June 2026.
What is the City of Chilliwack’s responsibility to put land aside for schools?
The City of Chilliwack has no role in land acquisition for school sites. That is a provincial responsibility under the Ministry of Infrastructure.
Is there an opportunity to build schools in collaboration with local First Nations?
Yes. Engaging with local First Nations on long-term leases was identified in the Long-Range Facilities Plan (2021-2025). The School District engages with local First Nations to explore the potential of a long-term lease to develop schools on First Nations land.
Why is the new elementary school being built in Rosedale?
The District already owned the piece of land on McGrath Road. We were successful in having a portion of the property removed from the Agricultural Land Reserve to build a school.
Is busing available for students who attend a choice school?
Busing is provided for students who attend their catchment school and live outside of walk limits. If a student is attending a choice school or program, they may be able to ride an existing route as a courtesy rider.
What happens if a student wants a program that is offered only at one school?
One Campus is an option for students who want to access unique secondary programming across the district. Learn more about One Campus.
If approved, when would changes happen?
Any recommendations are proposed for implementation in the 2027/2028 school year (September 2027).
